Inside Sarah Lavin’s Milan holiday with fellow track stars where they took in pop megastars’ concert

SARAH LAVIN is enjoying an off-season break in Milan alongside some of her fellow track star pals.

The Irish hurdler ventured off to the northern Italian hub with British long jumper Jazmin Sawyers and high jumper Morgan Lake.

Reflecting on the trip as a whole, the Limerick native described it as having ‘surpassed all expectations’.

Among their itinerary was a visit to the city’s historic shopping centre – the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

Amid their sightseeing of traditional Italian traits such as vespas on every road and beautiful cobbled streets that date back to the Roman Empire days there was also a more modern aspect.

That’s because they took in a gig by The Jonas Brothers on Tuesday in the Mediolanum Forum.

Sarah shared a clip of the American trio belting out ‘Year 3000’ despite the pop classic being initially made famous by throwback English pop-punk act Busted.

Her Instagram post drew a tonne of comments from followers who were very much struck down with a case of FOMO.

Michelle pined: “Jonas Brothers singing Year 3000, my teenage self is screaming right now.”

While Swiss Olympian Ajla Del Ponte added: “Track girls on tour!”

Lastly, Micheal wrote: “Love the style…and the buildings aren’t bad either! Enjoy loads.”

Lavin, 30, was among the bulk of Ireland’s Olympic athletes who attended the homecoming ceremony in Dublin on August 12.

En masse, they took the time to take photos with fans and sign autographs for the star-struck supporters.

It was the first of its kind for an Olympic team after Ireland returned with a record-breaking seven medals – with a whopping 20,000 people showing up.

Despite missing the closing ceremony through illness, Daniel Wiffen made an appearance after being rushed to hospital.

The double medallist had been set to be a flag bearer alongside fellow swimming medallist Mona McSharry – but Fintan McCarthy had to step in last minute.

Taoiseach Simon Harris spoke with Marty Morrissey, thanking the Olympic team on the behalf of the country.

He then joked that not a soul in the country had gotten any work done over the course of the two weeks.

Lavin will be 34 by the time the 2028 Games in Los Angeles roll around so it remains to be seen whether she’ll try and stick around for another Olympic cycle.

Her Paris journey came to an end in heartbreaking fashion when she narrowly missed out on a place in the 100m hurdles final.
