Former mayor of Querétaro sentenced for damage to public treasury – Grupo Milenio

Former municipal president of Colón, Querétaro, Alejandro N, was sentenced to 4 years in prison for causing damage to the treasury of 42 million pesos.

The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Corruption reported that it obtained a conviction against the former mayor for the crime of corruption, consisting of influence peddling.

The above, because in 2017, a complaint was received that a developer paid in cash for the portion of land, which by law must be delivered to the municipality, for equipment, well below its real cost, contravening what is established in the Urban Code.

For this reason, a professional, objective and impartial investigation was carried out, through which the evidence was collected and the series of legal appeals filed by the accused, through his defense, were resolved.

He mentioned that after the presentation of all the evidence by specialized personnel in a trial hearing before the judicial authority, it was determined that the accusation was adequate to prove the commission of the crime.

For this reason, the judge imposed damages of more than 42 million pesos in favor of the Municipality of Colón, as well as a prison term of 4 years and 9 months.

He was also disqualified from holding public office for the same prison term imposed.
