USA announced this Thursday a reward of up to 20 million dollars for information leading to the arrest of a law enforcement officer Revolutionary Guardthe ideological army of the Iranian regime, accused of planning an assassination.
The State Department announcement comes after former president and candidate donald trump denounce “major threats against his life” coming from Iran.
US fears retaliation for death of Iranian general in Trump administration
​In August, the United States announced that it had foiled a plot by a Pakistani linked to Tehran to assassinate a US official in revenge for the death of the Iranian general Qasem Soleimanimurdered on January 3, 2020 in a drone attack in Iraq ordered by Trump.
In a statement Thursday, the State Department is offering “a reward of up to 20 million dollars for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Shahram Pursafi”, also known as Mehdi Rezayi.
Trump administration included Iranian militia among terrorist organizations
In 2019 the United States included the Guardians of the Revolution on its blacklist of “foreign terrorist organizations.”
In August 2022, US authorities released an indictment against Shahram Poursafi as the alleged mastermind of an alleged murder plot against the former National Security Advisor from the White House, John Bolton.
The plan, for which the Iranian official is accused of having offered 300 thousand dollarswas allegedly intended to avenge the death of General Soleimani, according to the indictment.
In 2022, Iran described the accusations as “ridiculous” and considered that Bolton’s political career was “over.”
