Boy, 8, dies following gunshot to the head at a farm in Cumbria

An eight-year-old boy has died after suffering gunshots wounds to his head in Cumbria, local police have said.

Police were called to a farm in Warcop, Cumbria at around 2.50pm on Saturday following a report that a child had been seriously injured by a firearm at the property.

The boy was a taken to a local hospital by air ambulance having suffered serious and life-threatening injuries to his head and face but died overnight.

A man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remains in custody, while the firearm was secured at the scene by police.

Cumbria police said they are investigating the incident, and that the man in custody is now under arrest on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. The circumstances surrounding the boy’s death remain clear at this time.
