During the fighting, high-voltage cables were hit, causing a fire to break out on the site of the complex. Parts of the complex were badly damaged, the Ukrainian state-owned company Energoatom, which runs the plant, said. A reactor had to be closed, but no radioactive radiation was released.
Energoatom blamed Russia for the damage to the nuclear power plant. The Russian Defense Ministry accused Ukrainian troops of shelling the complex. Grossi called on both parties to act as cautiously as possible around the nuclear power plant.
He reiterated that the IAEA would like to inspect the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhya. Ukraine has so far refused to do this, because such a mission would legitimize the Russian presence at the plant. Shortly after the invasion of Ukraine, Russia took control of the plant.
Pick up grain
No grain has been collected in Ukraine since the raid, but that changed today. An empty cargo ship flying the flag of Barbados has arrived in the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk near Odessa, Ukraine’s Infrastructure Minister Aleksandr Kubrakov said. This is possible because of the agreement between Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and the United Nations, which paved the way for grain exports.
As a result, four large bulk carriers full of grain have been able to leave Ukrainian ports since last Monday. So now a foreign ship has arrived to pick up grain.
According to the agreements, all ships must be inspected by a joint team of the four participants in the agreement. There should be no items on board that have not been agreed upon. This applies to cargo ships from Ukraine and to ships bound for Ukraine.
