After a brutal extra-innings loss to the Minnesota Twins on Friday night, the Red Sox’s postseason hopes have been all but extinguished.
Nevertheless, the beat must go on for the remaining eight games of the year. Now 76-78, the Red Sox will try to claw their way to a .500 record or better after back-to-back losing seasons.
Vaughn Grissom is in Boston’s starting lineup for the first time since June 1. With Rafael Devers undergoing an MRI on both shoulders on Saturday and likely going on the injured list, the Red Sox plan to platoon Romy Gonzalez and Nick Sogard at third, Alex Cora announced. Mickey Gasper was also in the Red Sox clubhouse on Saturday afternoon with the taxi squad, and will be activated if Devers officially goes on the IL.
