AMERSFOORT Travel Active High School Holland offers foreign youth between the ages of 14 and 18 a unique opportunity to come to the Netherlands for a period of 3 to 10 months.
During their stay, they are immersed in the Dutch language and culture. They are taken in by their host family as an additional family member and become a student at a regular Dutch-language HAVO or VWO. Within three months, they speak excellent Dutch! Things go really fast when they join the local football club or swimming club or when they become a member of the local music band. Guidance and school. The exchange students and the host families receive guidance from a Local Coordinator in the region who visits the student, the host family and also at school every month.
TEMPORARILY AT HOME
The secondary schools are happy to have these international students in their classes. It contributes to current themes such as internationalisation and global citizenship. The High School Holland organisation brings together students, schools and host families and arranges everything for this cultural exchange. They are still looking for host families to offer all participating students a temporary home in the Netherlands for the coming school year. Anne Meijers, Program Director of the High School Holland exchange programme, puts it as follows: “Without hospitable, warm host families and without the guidance of our dedicated Local Coordinators, a cultural exchange like this is not possible. We are therefore looking for enthusiastic families who want to bring the world into their home with an international student! Our goal is to be able to offer a place to all young people who have consciously chosen the Netherlands as their High School destination for the coming school year. I am confident that we will be able to welcome all our exchange students at the end of August this year as well, but we still need some help from host families for that.

DRAMA LESSONS
In September, dozens of international students will come to the Netherlands to make their dream come true. This includes international student Elisabetta from Italy. Elisabetta is a 17-year-old girl from Italy. She is creative, an extroverted thinker and adventurous and has hobbies such as drawing, reading and writing. “I recently started drama lessons and I love it! Art is my thing! It doesn’t matter if it’s written, played or visual, I find it fun and interesting,” she writes in her profile. The Van der Locht-Jans family was a host family for Mexican student Milton: “We have such fond memories of the period when we were a host family for Milton, a Mexican student! We visited him last year during his graduation at his Mexican school. In a few weeks, our two youngest sons will be boarding a plane to visit Milton and his family. Two families, two cultures, many differences but even more similarities are the basis for a friendship for life.”
COSTS
Host families can live anywhere in the Netherlands and come in all shapes and sizes. In the eyes of High School Holland, all compositions of host families can offer a warm home to the students. A host family only provides the student’s room and board. All other costs are borne by the student. For more information: 085-2224810 or send an email to [email protected].
