I’m the Queen of Clean & I know exactly where the filth and bacteria is in your home – it’s not where you think

IT’S disgusting but true – there are many areas and items around the home that we often forget to clean.

The Sun told yesterday how TV remotes can be up to 15 times more dirty than the average toilet seat.

But here, Queen Of Clean Lynsey Crombie has you covered as she reveals how often you should tackle those mucky spots around the home.

LAPTOPS

LAPTOPS can end up filthy.

Wipe the screen and the keyboard once a week using rubbing alcohol and a microfibre cloth.

Just make sure you put the product on the cloth first, and not straight on to the device.

And if you have got crumbs between the keys, put rubbing alcohol on an earbud and work your way around.

To clean a regular PC keyboard, get a Post-it note and slide the sticky edge along the gaps.

The stuff that comes out is insane. It’s so satisfying!

TV REMOTE

I’VE noticed hotels have started putting remote controls in a plastic cases between guests, which I think is really good.

People use remotes in the bed and eat while holding them, so they can become very unhygienic.

At home, I’d just wipe them down weekly.

I’m a mum & tried 5 viral Spanish cleaning products

That should be enough, unless you live in a real filth pit – heaven forbid!

TOOTHBRUSH

THESE can be grim.

The biggest problem is when you flush the loo and don’t put the lid down – poo particles shoot up in the air and can land on the toothbrush if it’s left near the toilet.

So keep your brush away from the toilet, maybe in a cupboard – or just put the lid down!

I think people should be changing them quite often, too, maybe even once a month.

HANDBAGS

Handbags can get really dirty

HANDBAGS get really dirty. I went into Starbucks with my nice Mulberry bag.

I rubbed my seat with a wipe and it was as black as could be, and all I was thinking about was my poor handbag.

Wipe them with a damp microfibre cloth a couple of times a month, depending on usage.

When it comes to the inside, take it the contents out, shake it in the garden and give it a little spray of Febreeze, so it smells nice.

LIGHT SWITCHES

THESE get proper manky. You can use a multi-purpose spray on these whenever you’re cleaning.

But make sure you spray on to the cloth first then wipe the light switch.

Otherwise you’ll find the paintwork around the switch will start to discolour because you’re slowly stripping it away.

KITCHEN SPONGE

SOMETIMES kitchen sponges become so dirty and greasy it feels like they could walk out of the kitchen by themselves.

If you’ve got a dishwasher, chuck your sponge in along with the dishes.

It’s the best way to kill the germs, because the heat is so high.

Regular washing machines don’t get hot enough.

MAKE-UP BRUSHES

CLEAN these once a week, especially if you’re a regular make-up user.

Just swirl them around in a bowl of your usual make-up remover or micellar water.

You can also use baby shampoo.

BREAD BINS

YOUR bread is generally in a bag, so when it runs out you don’t tend to think about cleaning the bread bin, but they can get quite germy.

I’ve cleaned houses with mould growing in the bread bins.

There was one that nearly had mushrooms growing.

So I would say simply clean it once a month with warm, soapy water as if you’re washing it up, then put it back.
