Toto Schillaci, one of the heroes of Italy’s home World Cup in 1990, has died at the age of 59.
Schillaci won the Golden Boot after scoring six goals on the host nation’s run to the semi-finals.
The former Juventus and Inter striker had been hospitalised with colon cancer 11 days ago.
“He made an entire nation dream during the Magic Nights of Italia ’90,” Inter said as they announced his death on Wednesday morning.
“FC Internazionale Milano gathers around the Schillaci family for the passing of Toto.”
