Sir Keir Starmer, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, and Chancellor Rachel Reeves will no longer accept donations of clothing, it is understood, after a row erupted over gifts to Downing Street officials.
The Prime Minister has come under fire after it emerged he received more than £16,000 worth of work clothing from prominent Labour donors. Sir Keir’s wife Lady Victoria also accepted gifts from Labour peer Lord Waheed Alli.
Sir Keir has accepted
Donations totalling around £39,000 have been gifted to Sir Keir by Lord Alli since December 2019.
Ms Rayner and Ms Reeves, meanwhile, received thousands of pounds of work clothing from wealthy donors that they listed as general office support on their registers of interests, the Financial Times reported.
The Deputy Prime Minister received funding towards clothing from Lord Alli, while a donor called Juliet Rosenfield provided funding for the Chancellor’s wardrobe, according to the report.
The latest in the row over donations comes as the Labour Party heads to Liverpool for its first annual conference since it won the general election in July.
Sir Keir maintains he has followed all the rules on accepting donations.
