This is what Minister Yeşilgöz-Zegerius of Security and Justice wrote in a letter to the House of Representatives. Google previously took measures to bring the use of Google Workspace into line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This after it was determined in 2020 that the cloud solution did not comply with this legislation. Based on this, Google drew up an improvement plan at the end of 2022. However, an inspection showed that this did not eliminate all risks.
‘Agreed measures have been fully implemented’
The government and Google therefore came up with a new plan early last year for additional measures that should still eliminate all privacy risks. “Shortly after June 9, 2023, SLM determined that Google had fully implemented the agreed measures from the Data Privacy Impact Assessment (DPIA),” the minister now writes in an update.
“A DTIA was recently conducted on Google Meet (a representative part of Google Workspace). This research shows that, when the recommended measures are applied, there are no high risks as a result of international transfers of personal data. This conclusion assumes that Google Meet is not used to share special categories of personal data and sensitive personal data. The full list of recommended measures can be found in the DTIA report.”
