NFL ex-player allegedly assaults 82-year-old man at Planet Fitness

A former NFL player who was on three Patriots championship teams is accused of assaulting an 82-year-old man at a Rhode Island fitness gym during a scuffle over a piece of exercise equipment.

Police in North Providence arrested Patrick Pass, 46, on Wednesday, Sept. 18, on suspicion of assaulting a man over the age of 60 and causing bodily injury.

Pass was released on $10,000 bail after arraignment and ordered not to contact the alleged victim. He will return to court in January.

The incident happened on Aug. 28 at a Planet Fitness, according to authorities. The two men allegedly had a dispute over a piece of exercise equipment; Pass reportedly pushed the older man, who fell and hurt his back, police said.

Last year, Pass was booted from his coaching job in the Indoor Football League after he charged into the stands during a game in Phoenix.

Pass had been a fullback with the Patriots at the start of the Brady-Belichick dynasty. A running back out of Georgia, he was selected by New England in the seventh round of the 2000 NFL Draft.

He picked up Super Bowl champion rings in 2002, 2004 and 2005, then left the Patriots after the 2006 season. He played just one game for the Giants in 2007 before his career ended.

In 2020, Pass became head coach of the Massachusetts Pirates, an Indoor Football League team, and two years later he was named director of football development.

The league suspended him indefinitely in July 2023 for an altercation during a game that spilled into the stands. The Pirates were playing the Arizona Rattlers in Phoenix when a verbal exchange between a fan and a player ended with Pass and three Pirates players jumping the barrier from the sideline.
