SICT works on access regulations for airport platform taxis – Grupo Milenio

The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) revealed that it is working on new regulations to allow the access of the platform taxis to the country’s airports.

“We are reaching an agreement with the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), together with the other airport groups to reinforce the service and that they can enter digital platform servicesmentioned in a meeting with the media,” the head of the SICT, Jorge Nuño Lara.

In addition, he pointed out that they have had meetings, both with digital companies and with traditional taxi firms, to include all positions in the new regulations.

“Right now we are in that evaluation, what we have to improve so that it serves all service providers. Here the priority is the users, so that they have mobility options,” said Nuño Lara.

In days gone by, MILLENNIUM announced that SICT decided to stop the process of reforming the motor transportation regulations, which sought, mainly, regulate access for platform taxis as Uber and DiDi to the country’s airports.

This modification was under review by the National Commission for Regulatory Improvement (Conamer), to later be published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), however, the process was reversed.

The outgoing head of the SICT, Jorge Nuño Lara, mentioned that it will be the next administration that will report the details about the new regulations to allow the entry of platform taxis.

“We listen to traditional taxi companies and we will modify the things they let us know in such a way that users can leave any airport faster, that is the priority,” said the official.

The AICM traditional taxis demanded adequate regulation, because otherwise they would disappear in a maximum of a year.
