Substitute Dost prevents FC Utrecht defeat with two goals

Bas Dost saved FC Utrecht from a defeat at the start of the season. The 33-year-old striker, back in the Eredivisie after ten years abroad, started on the bench in the away game against RKC Waalwijk. Trainer Henk Fraser brought Dost into the field immediately after the break at a 2-0 deficit and thanks to two hits from the substitute, Utrecht took another point: 2-2.

FC Utrecht was very active this summer. The club not only appointed a new trainer with Fraser, but also brought in a lot of new players. Fraser had six acquisitions start in Waalwijk. FC Utrecht got off to a good start, but faced a 2-0 deficit halfway through.

Dario van den Buijs opened the score after fifteen minutes, after Michiel Kramer had headed through a corner. Just before half time, Iliass Bel Hassani beautifully scored the 2-0. The midfielder was given space to lash out and shot in through the inside of the post.

After the break, Dost needed 7 minutes as a substitute to score his first goal for FC Utrecht. Just before that, Kramer, on the other hand, had missed a big chance to make it 3-0. At 2-1, RKC defender Shawn Adewoye also missed a free opportunity. That turned out to be expensive misses, because in the final phase Dost headed in the equalizer.
