On Sunday was chosen Alexander Stubb (Samlingsparti) to the next president of Finland. Today, he answers questions from both the Finnish and international media at a press conference at the Musikhuset in Helsinki.
Stubb nevertheless began with a short speech. The morning has passed in the sign of work and together with the family. The time has also passed to receive congratulations.
– The morning has been dedicated to work, I have spent it with the family, and received many congratulations.
Among those who congratulated is the president Tarja HalonenUlf Kristersson, Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Store and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Sweden’s Prince Daniel.
Stubb also repeats his three promises from election night.
– I will give my all every day for the next six years, I will bring the best of Finland forward in all situations and I want to be a unifying force, says Stubb.
Stump also speaks the future. The next step will be the security conference in Munich, where Stubb is already invited as a professor. Stubb is also going to Florence, where he worked as a professor.
The final figures were 51.6 for Stubb and 48.4 for the opposing candidate Pekka Haavisto. A total of 3,051,759 approved votes were cast in the election and turnout was 70.7 percent among those eligible to vote in Finland.
Stubb takes office as president on March 1, 2024.
