FIELD HOCKEY
This is the first season another team within the Middlesex League defends a state championship alongside Watertown, but the Raiders reminded everyone Thursday night they’re still boss.
Behind two goals from Toria Dicker on corners, and a lock-down fourth quarter, three-time reigning Div. 3 state champion Watertown (9-0) held off a strong comeback bid from defending Div. 2 state champion Reading (9-1) as part of a 3-2 win. The win not only marked Watertown’s 84th straight, but also ended the Rockets’ win streak at 21 games.
Watertown scored in the first five minutes in each of the first three quarters, helping build a 2-0 lead in the second quarter and a 3-1 lead in the third. Dani Bowers scored both goals for Reading to cut the deficit in a resilient fight throughout, but the Raiders executed just enough to never give up their lead.
Brynn McLaughlun and Reese Taylor each notched two goals while Ally Arruda had 15 saves in net as Apponequet defeated Fairhaven, 6-1, in the South Coast League.
In a Nonleague matchup, Addie Finlaw (three goals, two assists), Julie Pacheco (four goals) and Ryan Crook (three assists) paced Somerset Berkley to a 9-2 victory over West Bridgewater. … Alivia Barnes finished with a hat trick while Elisabeth Stutzman added two goals and an assist as Sandwich blanked Mashpee, 7-0.

CLASS NOTES
A pair of former Catholic Conference standouts were selected to be inducted into the Stonehill Hall of Fame. BC High track star Corey Thomas and Catholic Memorial ace Billy Sitting headline a group which includes Sandwich’s Kate Sarkissian (lacrosse/soccer) and Lindsey Pinkham (field hockey/track).
Sittig pitched at CM from 1999-2002 and was part of a Knights team which advanced to a Div. 1 South sectional final as well as two sectional semifinals. While at Stonehill, Sittig was a three-time all-New England first team selection and set program records for strikeouts in a season and innings pitched. He ended his career with 23 wins and struck out 286 batters in 294 innings with a 2.17 ERA.
A multi-time All-Scholastic track star at BC High, Thomas was the 2011 NCAA Indoor High Jump Champion and qualified for all eight NCAA Championships in his career. A three-time Northeast-10 Athlete of the Year, Thomas was a five-time New England champion and still holds five school records.
Sarkissian was a four-time All-American in lacrosse and was part of two National Championship teams. In her time there, Stonehill was 39-0 in league play and 68-8 overall. She was also a four-year member of the soccer team, ending her career with seven goals and four assists in 53 career games.
