More than 150 Democrats, including all but one of Massachusetts’ weak-kneed all-Democratic delegation, opposed a bipartisan bill this week to crack down on sex crimes and violence by undocumented immigrants.
The only Bay State Democrat to vote for the bill was Stephen Lynch of South Boston.
The vote came the same week Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the latest arrest of an immigrant here illegally – a Salvadoran charged with 11 sex crimes against a child in Nantucket.
“Elmer Sola unlawfully entered the United States, then made his way into our Nantucket community before allegedly committing some horrific and despicable crimes against a child,” Enforcement and Removal Operation Boston Director Todd Lyons said. “The officers of ERO Boston will not tolerate such a threat to the children of our New England neighborhoods. We will continue to prioritize the safety of our public by arresting and removing egregious noncitizen offenders.”
Even Massachusetts moderates Jake Auchincloss and Seth Moulton joined the Kamala Harris wing of the party to reject the Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act. Also voting against it were Reps. Katherine Clark, Bill Keating, Jim McGovern, Richard Neal, Lori Trahan and Ayanna Pressley.
The only voice of reason was the moderate Lynch.
The bill passed the Republican-controlled House by an easy 266-158 vote, but faces an uncertain fate in the Senate.
“158 left-wing members of Congress just voted against deporting rapists, pedophiles and murderers of women and kids,” the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) said. “(The bill) is about common sense, a trait sorely lacking in Washington these days.”
The provisions in the bill to deport or keep out of the country any undocumented immigrants who commit sex offenses, domestic violence or child abuse were apparently too strict for Democrats who stuck by the partisan principles of the party rather than embrace cracking down on violence against women and children.
But it was really politics that drove Democrats in Massachusetts to vote against it and threatens to derail it in the Senate.
They’re so blinded by partisan politics they refuse to acknowledge reality.
How do you not support deporting someone here illegally who is charged with raping a minor?
With illegal immigration one of the flash points in the race, Democrats said the bill was part of Donald Trump’s effort to demonize immigrants.
“Here we are again, debating another partisan bill that fearmongers about immigrants,” Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal said. “Scapegoating immigrants and attempting to weaponize the crime of domestic violence is appearing to be a time-honored tradition for Republicans.”
Democrats and the mainstream media continue to ignore sex crimes and violent crimes piling up by migrants here illegally.
They would rather talk about how bigger Kamala Harris’s crowd sizes are than Donald Trump’s. The New York Times assigned six reporters to prove that Trump is fibbing about Harris, rather than dig into illegal immigrant crimes.
