Current generation of girls suffers disproportionately: UN-DH- Millennium Group

The Alto Office United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights in Mexico (UN-DH) assured that climate crises, conflicts and poverty have a direct impact so that “current generation of girls disproportionately suffers the consequences”

Within the framework of the International Day of the Girl, the organization with the theme “The vision of the future of girls”, highlighted the urgency of acting to protect and empower more than 1.1 billion girls around the world.

“Girls are not only brave in crisis situations, but they have hope for the future. Every day they take steps to realize the vision of a world in which all girls are protected, respected and empowered,” they said in a statement.

The organization urged to listen to girls in order to “invest in proven solutions that accelerate progress towards a future in which “All girls can develop their full potential.”

The United Nations General Assembly established October 11 as the International Day of the Girl in 2011, recognizing the unique challenges that girls face and their right to a safe, educated and healthy life.

The UN-DH mentioned that in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, world leaders recognize that achieving gender equality is essential to meet the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). in order to “guarantee the rights of women and girls.”
