Day of the Dead Festival “Pomuch for the World” – Grupo Milenio

The town of Pomuch prepares to receive thousands of visitors in the 2024 edition of the Day of the Dead FestivalPomuch for the World“, which will be held on the 31st of October.

At a press conference, the general director of the Heritage Authority Cultural of the State of Campeche (APCEC), Ro Olvera Salinas, presented the activities, which includes 21 free events designed to preserve and share the traditions and the cultural heritage of the region.

The head of the APCEC highlighted the interest and support that the Governor, Layda Sansoresprovides to strengthen, preserve and disseminate the artistic manifestations and cultural of Campecheand with this, protect the cultural heritage.

He added that in the 2023 edition of the festival was attended by more than 8 thousand people, including regional visitors, as well as as national and international tourists.

The Secretary of Tourism, Mauricio Arceo Piñarecalled that the economic impact of the 2023 edition of the festival was nine million pesos, with a hotel occupancy of 44 percent.

He added that this year, to date, the hotel sector records 50 percent of reservations so they expect an increase as the date of celebration of faithful departed.

He mentioned that they will attend to the international press that is coming of Spain to cover the activities of Pomuch, while, agencies of local trips are promoting outings to the town, “the strength of Campeche is their culture” he mentioned.

What cultural activities will be offered?

The cultural offer will include an exhibition of plastic artists of the state, conferences about the symbolism of Hanal Pixan and the vocabulary of the celebration, presentations theatrical performances and a Day of the Dead concert with folk musicians.

The director of Commercial Development and Services of the Ministry of Economic Development of the State of Campeche (Sedeco), Ricardo Medina Castilloreported on the organization of Kiwi (Open-air market), which covers a space of 60 meters tent 15 meters wide and will delight you with a variety of typical foods and local seasonal products.

The director of the General Archive of the State of Campeche (AGEC), Elydé Osorio Medina indicated that they will participate in the coordination of presentations that will be carried out in local primaries.

For his part, the Secretary General of the Campechano Institute (IC), Rafael Meneses López, indicated that the academic institution will also join the festival, with the participation of students from various disciplines.

Students of the Gastronomy School will present a culinary sample, while Tourism students will support with translations in English and French for international visitors.

The School of Artistic will participate in the altar and Paseo de Pixanes contest, while the students of Social Work They will collaborate in the logistics of the event.

Finally, Lucy Coba Hernandezfrom the cultural group Maya Kinexpressed his enthusiasm for the growing diffusion of the festival, which has aroused the interest of people from other countries.
