For the third weekend in October we propose a getaway to one of the most beautiful and at the same time least known Pyrenean valleys. It is about the Aezkoa Valley (valledeaezkoa.com), crossed by the Irati River and dotted with charming towns with huge stone hamlets surrounded by beech, oak and chestnut forests.

You can start by discovering some of its 9 charming towns: Aria, Aribe, Garralda, Garaioa, Orbaizeta (where the ruins of the old ammunition factory are located, a must-visit place in the valley), Orbara, Villanueva de Aezkoa, Abaurrea Alta and Abaurrea Baja.

In nature, essential walk through the Irati Jungle, an immense mass of beech trees that, due to its extension, is the largest in Spain and the second largest in Europe and which has been named by UNESCO, last July, as a new Biosphere Reserve. A natural space that you can explore on foot or by bike along its marked paths, some around the Irabia reservoir.

To get to know Aezkoa from its best perspective, you must take a look at some of its most beautiful viewpoints: that of Ariztokia or that of Zamariain.
