Cañeros de los Mochis beat Sultanes in the first of the series – Grupo Milenio

The Cañeros de Los Mochis took advantage of two full house situations in the game to defeat the Sultanes 7-1 in the first game of the series on the diamond of the Mobil Super Stadium.

Omar Araujo (1-0) was the winning pitcher while Gerardo Salas (0-2) from Jiménez took the fall.

Los Mochis (10-5) remains in second place chasing the leaders Tomateros de Culiacán. For Monterrey (4-11) it was the eighth defeat in a row that leaves them at the bottom of the standings in the Mexican Pacific League.

The visiting team took the lead in the first inning with an RBI double by Eric Filia that brought Isaac Rodríguez home from first base.

The Sultans tied 1-1 at the end of the same first inning with a double to left field by Bobby Bradley that drove in the debutant, Donovan Casey.

The ninth team from Sinaloa scored a couple of runs at the opening of the fifth chapter to go ahead on the scoreboard 3-1.

Roel Santos fired unstoppably into the central field with a full house to boost Rodolfo Amador and Marco Jaime.

The Cañeros increased the lead in the seventh inning with a bunch of four unearned runs.

After an error by Carter Aldrete at shortstop, Yasmani Tomás hit a three-run double with the bases loaded, and then Kyle Martin hit an RBI double to make the score 7-1.

The game featured brilliant defensive plays. In the first inning Justin Dean hit an accurate throw to the plate to put out Brandon Villarreal who was looking to score from second with a hit by Casey.

At the bottom of the sixth, Marco Jaime reached the bottom of the short stop on a hit by Dustin Peterson to start a double play that ended the inning and the royal threat.

In the seventh, Emmanuel Ávila caught a ball down the third-base line by Isaac Rodríguez with an upturned glove to put out Alejandro Urías at home

The series continues today, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with Noah Bremer (2-1) as the pitcher for the home team against Nick Struck (0-0).
