Iván García, Olympic medalist in London 2012, announces his retirement – Grupo Milenio

Iván García ended his diving career. The 31-year-old from Jalisco who made a historical duo next to German Sanchez, announced the final goodbye to the platforms and pools.

The ‘Chicken’ was part of the Mexican delegation in three Olympic Games: London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, in which he reaped a silver precisely in his first Olympic participation along with ‘Duva’, his companion in a thousand battles.

Iván came to Code Jalisco when he was seven years old and immediately demonstrated his quality as an athlete, by participating in National Olympics and different international events.

“To inform you that I have made the decision to retire from divingto put an end to this wonderful life of my life. Without a doubt it is a decision that makes me very nostalgic, remembering that Ivan who came to the pool at the age of seven, with many hopes and dreams, and today when I have to say goodbye, realizing that I achieved all those dreams and hopes, without a doubt it is something that I will be eternally grateful to God and life. Clavados meant everything: I was happy, they understood me, I learned to work, I learned to dream and value,” he mentioned in a video on his social networks.

Iván participated in different international events, such as Youth World Cups, World Cups, Central American and Caribbean Games, Pan American Games, Youth Olympic Games and the Olympic Games; In all of them he won medals.

“I want to thank the people I competed with, they made me a much better person, a better rival, I feel proud of the person I became through sport, and without a doubt also to the entire publicit was an honor for me to represent each and every one of you in every competition in which I had the opportunity. It wasn’t easy, there were complicated stages too, but that’s life.. But this Olympic ring reminds me of the promise I made to myself as a child, which was to be an Olympic medalist, and today I say with great pride that I am retiring as an Olympic medalist, with this I tell you that dreams do come true. “Work hard, life is wonderful.”

Iván García lives in Guadalajara and has a family with his wife Paola Espinosaalso a former diver. In the last Olympic Games, in Paris 2024, he was a sports commentator.
