Sheinbaum signs decree so that Pemex and CFE are public companies – Grupo Milenio

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo signed the decree to make it official that both Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) once again become public companies of the State.

“We are going to sign the decree that returns Pemex and CFE to the people of Mexico. Yesterday this reform was declared constitutional, Congress sends it to us again once it declared it constitutional so that it can be published in the Official Gazette of the Federation,” he said.

In her morning conference at the National Palace, the president recalled that previous governments sought to ensure that companies stopped being public and became private. However, its administration will ensure that State assets are public.

As an example, he also gave the State’s ability to operate passenger trains, again, which he considered a very important reform.

“We are going to sign today and that is why we have asked Andrés and Elena to tell us what these reforms are about, so that everyone knows them,” he said.

The Constitutional reform approved by the Congress of the Union and more than half of the locals eliminates the status of CFE and Pemex as “productive companies” of the State, with which it seeks to regain leadership in the strategic areas of electricity and hydrocarbons.

Likewise, through secondary laws, the participation of the CFE in the electricity sector will be privileged over private investors, and its prevalence will be defined with at least 54 percent participation in the electricity sector.
