The new season of the 3x3NL League is about to start. This is a competition that exists in addition to the regular competition offer of the Dutch Basketball Association (NBB), and therefore takes place on weekends when (as yet) no 5-on-5 basketball is scheduled.
3×3 Basketball is still on the rise. The NBB continues to look for ways to further align the sports offering with the needs of basketball players.
Play 3×3 all year round
The association is making the competition even more accessible than last year, says Jeanine Tjin-A-Sioe, project officer at the NBB: “We want everyone to be able to participate. Even if you are not a member of a 5-a-side club, you can register a team.” According to her, this also makes 3×3 an option for clubs that, due to circumstances, have a team that is too small for regular basketball or basketball players who normally only play on the courts. “They can still play competitively five times a year in the 3x3NL League.”
Martin Ho Suie Sang is, as Program Manager at the NBB, responsible for the 3×3 offer. He says: “3×3 Basketball has received an ultimate boost after an incredible summer. We notice that we are well on track organizationally, together with clubs & partners who support us, and are expanding further and further.” The public is also increasingly appreciating 3×3, he notices.

The 3x3NL League consists of regional tournaments where teams are divided by age, gender and playing level. Tournament winners of the five rounds automatically qualify for the national finals of the NK 3×3 in Amsterdam. These are in July.
