MET Eireann bosses have warned thundery rain and “further showers” are on the cards – as some towns are left with a major clean up following yesterday’s flooding.
Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather said the rainfall was at 63mm highest total at Dumanway with 0mm on East coast.
The streets in Bantry, in Co Cork flooded yesterday due to the heavy downpours and the lack of drainage.
While the Sheen River Kenmare in Kerry flooded nearby roads.
He added: “Thankfully a much better day down south today, well until the showers hit this evening.”
Met Eireann’s Siobhan Ryan said: “Low pressure remains in charge over the next few days.
“Feeding in further heavy showers, occasionally merging into longer spells of thundery rain.
“And where it will remain mild and humid, up until and including Tuesday, come Wednesday, a more of a northerly breeze.
“So temperatures will fall back quite markedly for the second half of this coming week.”
The forecaster said it does look like “Kirk will remain to the south of Ireland” but there’s still “some uncertainty”.
She added: “And this stage looks like there will be some extremely impactful weather moving in across mainland Europe, including parts of Iberia.”
Today will be “very mild” but the rain will make a return.
Siobhan said: “There will still be some lingering rain over parts of the north and east to begin, but that will clear off into the Irish Sea.
“So we will see an improvement into the afternoon, nice, warm, mild spells of hazy sunshine developing fairly readily.
“But once again, a deterioration later in the day, as the cloud base lowers.
“And we see some outbreaks of rain continuing to push in to parts of Connacht and indeed Munster.
“But temperatures ahead of that very good, especially for the time of year, values of 14C to 17C, possibly even climbing to 18C.”
Tomorrow will bring “sunny spells and scattered showers”.
Some of these showers will be heavy with the “potential for thunderstorms”.
And highest temperatures will range between 14C to 17C.
Siobhan added: “Take a quick look then to Monday’s weather, heavy showers, in particular, affecting the southern half of the country.
“And then for Tuesday, heavy showers, especially affecting the east and north east.”
