Activist Irinea Buendía denounced through social media that she was arbitrarily and without warning the protective measures that she and her family were counting on were withdrawn.
Irinea is the mother of Mariana Lima Buendía, who was a victim of feminicide in 2010, He explained in a statement that on September 19 he received a message saying that “on orders from his superiors,” the people in charge of the family’s security had been assigned to another commission, since there was no document that legally supported any measure.
From 2016 to date, Mariana Lima Buendía’s family has experienced at least 10 security incidents, two of which put her life at risk. For this reason, they are part of the National Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders, and until yesterday, they had protection measures from the State of Mexico.
In response, they said it was urgent that the protection mechanisms that the authorities had arbitrarily and without warning decided to take away from them be immediately restored.
“The State must protect and guarantee the safety of those who legitimately exercise the right to demand justice and justice for their daughters. When it does not do so, it becomes responsible and complicit in any situation that may happen to them,” they stated in the statement.
For which reason they made a call to the governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gomezthe State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office and the State Legal Counsel to request that implement immediate measures to guarantee the integrity, safety and life from the family of Mariana Lima Buendía.
Since 2010, Irinea Buendía has fought to achieve justice for the femicide of her daughter, which had originally been classified as suicide and thanks to her fight, in March 2023, Julio Cesar Hernandez Ballinas was sentenced to 70 years imprisoned for the femicide of Mariana Lima.
