The launch of From Here to the Great Unknownun memory book that was completed by his daughter Riley Keough has revealed that the family he kept Benjamin’s body in his home for two months, in a deep and devastating act of mourning.
Lisa Marie kept her son’s body in her home
Lisa Marie’s new memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown, were completed by his daughter Riley Keough after Presley’s death in 2023 and they shed details of the heartbreaking moments that the singer experienced after the death of her son.
In the memories, Lisa Marie confessed that she was so devastated by the loss of Benjamin who fought to stay alive for her other children, including her twins Harper and Finley Lockwood, who are now 16 years old.
This pain prevented her from burying her son quickly. During that time, Lisa Marie debated between two places for her rest end: Hawaii or Graceland, Tennessee, where his father, Elvis Presley, is buried.
While making this difficult decision, decided to keep Benjamin’s body in a small detached house on his property in Calabasas, California. One part of the process that Lisa Marie describes as “satisfying” was the fact that California has no laws requiring immediate burial.
He found a sympathetic funeral director who allowed Benjamin’s body to remain in his home, preserved at a temperature of 55 degrees.
Although the situation may seem strange to others, Lisa Marie explained that it was not to her: “I think anyone else would be scared to death to have their child there like that. But not me.”
Lisa Marie also shared the deep bond that continued to support her son after his death. Together with their daughter Riley, they decided to honor Benjamin by getting identical tattoos in his memory, a symbolic act of love and togetherness that sought to perpetuate Benjamin’s memory.
Finally, After months of mourning, Benjamin was buried at Graceland, with his grandfather Elvis Presley, in the Meditation Garden, a place that has become the eternal resting place for several members of the Presley family.
Years later, in January 2023, Lisa Marie was also buried next to her son and father, closing a chapter of pain and loss that deeply marked the last years of his life.
