The BBC’s weather website and app has accidentally forecast hurricane force winds hitting the UK.
Residents across the country, from London to Norfolk and Nottingham, shared images of the incorrect prediction online.
Graphics showed estimated wind speeds of 13,508 mph in London and overnight temperatures of 404°C in Nottingham.
Presenter Matt Taylor said on X: “Don’t be alarmed folks – Hurricane Milton hasn’t made it to us here in the UK! There’s been a data glitch between our suppliers and the app/online. Folk are working to solve the issue.”
It comes as Hurricane Milton is hitting parts of Tampa Bay, Florida, and has led to reported deaths, flash flooding and millions of people being told to evacuate the area.
BBC Weather said it was “working hard to fix it quickly” and apologised.
In another post, Presenter Simon King said: “Oops, don’t be alarmed by some of our BBC Weather app data this morning.
“Be assured there won’t be 14408mph winds, hurricane force winds or overnight temperatures of 404C.”
Forecasters noted the issue on TV bulletins.
