Noah Bremer worked five solid innings and Carter Aldrete hit a three-run homer in the Sultanes’ 5-0 victory over the Caballeros Águila de Mexicali to begin the Mexican Pacific League season.
Monterrey counted on pitching, defense and a four-run rally in the eighth inning for the victory at the start of its sixth winter season.
Bremer was the winning pitcher with five scoreless innings, four hits, six strikeouts, and no bases granted. He had the support of five relievers.
The loss fell to David Reyes, allowing one run in four and two-thirds innings. Seven pitchers pitched for Mexicali.
The Gray Ghosts took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning.
Carter Aldrete hit third base and advanced to second on an error by Moi Gutiérrez; He reached third with a sacrifice bunt by Emmanuel Ávila and scored with a grounder to Ricardo Valenzuela’s infield.
