Washington, United States /
The Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, accepted an invitation from the CNN to participate in another debate against Donald Trump on October 23, but his Republican rival repeated that it is too late to do so, with less than two weeks to go until the November 5 elections.
“Vice President Harris is ready for another opportunity to share the stage with Donald Trump, and has accepted the invitation from the CNN to a debate on October 23. Donald Trump should have no problem accepting this debate,” Democratic campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement Saturday.
When asked about Harris’ acceptance of the invitation from the CNNa Trump spokesman referred to the former president’s previous statements that there would be no more debates. The billionaire then said that It’s too late for another meeting.
Harris and Trump first debated on September 10, in a race that polls showed was the democratic candidate won.
Trump said last week that he would not participate in another debate against Harris before the election. “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!” the former president wrote on his social media site Truth Social days ago.
Trump debated President Joe Biden in June, before his showdown with Harris.
Biden’s shaky performance in that debate rattled Democrats and led strategists to wonder whether their party should take the unprecedented step of replacing the 81-year-old president as its nominee. Ultimately, Biden dropped out of the White House race in July.
