Former One Direction singer Liam has allegedly died after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina, TMZ reported.
The popstar reportedly fell from the third floor of a hotel in the Argentinian capital of Buenos Aires, it has been reported.
Alberto Crescenti, head of the state emergency medical system, said on Argentina’s Todo Noticias TV channel that Payne fell into a courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel in the trendy Palermo neighborhood of Argentina’s capital.
Mr Crescenti declined to answer further questions about the incident, including whether Payne jumped from the balcony or fell by accident.
“Just enjoying coffee and breakfast, even though it’s like 1pm,” Payne said posting on Snapchat earlier in the day. “Literally sleep in every day until like 12. We’re such losers.”
The star added: “Think I’m going to play polo again which is going to put me out of action for about six weeks.”
Payne rose to global fame as part of the since-disbanded pop band One Direction, alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson.
The boy band got its start after finishing third on the British version of the X Factor music competition show in 2010, but the group broke up in 2016 as its members pursued different projects including solo careers.
Payne had previously had a relationship with fellow pop sensation Cheryl Cole. The pair welcomed their son Bear Grey on 22 March 2017.
