Miners ask for legal certainty to reactivate the country’s development – Grupo Milenio

The Association of Mining Engineers, Metallurgists and Geologists of Mexico (AIMMGM) urged the federal government to provide legal certainty to reactivate the country development and the mining industry.

The president of the AIMMGM, Rubén del Pozo Mendoza, revealed that during 2024 and 2025 the mining-metallurgy industry will launch ten pending gold and silver projects or expansions, whose exploration stage was carried out during previous administrations.

“Of these projects, seven are new, two for expansion and one for reactivation, in the states of: Durango, Jalisco, Sonora, Guerrero, Sinaloa, Zacatecas and State of Mexico,” he indicated at a press conference.

Rubén del Pozo assured that the projects show that the mining sector is looking to the future.

“We miners want to have certainty about the execution of these projects that are a source of well-being for thousands of families.”

They will seek to promote concessions and avoid prohibiting open pit mining

He said that they will continue to insist on the ‘urgent’ need to reactivate the concessions and “not prohibit open pit mining.”

During the announcement of the next mining convention, the general coordinator of the event, Ricardo Moreno Trousselle, indicated that this meeting is conducive to knowledge exchange and strengthening of professional ties.

When will the convention take place?

This convention will take place from November 18 to 21, 2025, in the port of Acapulco, after the effects of Hurricane Otis a year ago and recently the impact of Hurricane John.

“The decision is a product of the solidarity of the mining industry with the people of Guerrero after the unfortunate passage of hurricanes Otis, in 2023, and John, this year, with the devastating effects that we all know; “We are part of a great industry that generates wealth, but also has great social responsibility,” he emphasized.

The Secretary of Promotion and Economic Development of Guerrero, Teodora Ramírez Vega, added that mining activity in Guerrero represents one of the most dynamic sectors of the state economysince it generates more than four thousand jobs direct and more than 17 thousand indirect.

“In exports, in attracting national and foreign investment, in incorporating local suppliers, it is an important value chain,” he added.

In this regard, the Secretary of Tourism of Guerrero, Simón Quiñones, highlighted that the state government works tirelessly to reactivate the economic, tourist and social life of Acapulco.

In this recovery, the port already has 11,500 rooms available and 15,000 would be available next winter.
