I truly believe that the authorities’ call to remind the population to clean their yards is useful because despite the fumigations, two days later you see mosquito reproduction again if there are breeding grounds nearby,” said Alejandra Reyes, a dengue victim.

Despite the fumigation work, The personnel in charge is scarce: only 24 workers are available for vector control, ten of them belonging to the Sanitary Jurisdiction No. 10 and 14 more corresponding to the municipal government, admitting that the personnel is insufficient for a demarcation such as Tehuacán, the second largest municipality in the country. The State level vector representative, Juana Durán Luz pointed out that the mosquito has an incubation period of one week from when it is an egg to when it is an adult, so it is important to eliminate stored water residues. She also asked that vectors be allowed access to homes in order to carry out fumigation.

“We invite the population to please open their doors to us when our colleagues from the vector program come so that we can stop the transmission at that moment because otherwise it will continue and we will have a larger outbreak that will be very difficult to contain,” he said.
