Agri-food sector with a deficit of 6 million workers: CNA- Grupo Milenio

Mexico City /

The president of the National Agricultural Council, Juan Cortina Gallardo, assured that ldue to lack of personnel in the agri-food industry registers a deficit of at least 6 million workers, because it is not possible to find human talent for the fields.

“In Mexico, today, there are between 4 and 6 million jobs that are not being served because there are no people; “That is a reality,” he explained, during the Global Agri-Food Forum in the capital of Aguascalientes.

Regarding the initiative to reduce the 40 hour work daymentioned that this measure is worrying due to the lack of personnel.

“That is why we were so concerned about this issue of 40 hours because what people want is to work and have a better income,” he said.

“The Mexican is a worker, and although labor is lacking, also in the industrial sector, formal jobs that have services and medical care must be promoted; There are many aspects that have to be promoted,” he indicated.

In this sense, he commented that the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, proposed that the country’s agricultural laborers should be retained, with the idea of a win-win, in order to achieve shared prosperity.

“Obviously as CNA we are supporting this effort, because we are lacking manpower, so we don’t want them to go the other way,” he said.

“We want them to stay here with their families, so that they have a much better standard of living and, above all, that they have well-paid jobs,” he said.

To prevent them from emigrating from the country, Cortina Gallardo, stated that for several days they have been working with the federal government so that the agricultural laborers have no interest in migrating abroad.
