PRI calls on authorities to intensify campaigns to prevent cancer – Milenio Group

The federal representative of PRIVerónica Martínez García, urged the Ministry of Health, the state and municipal governments, to carry out permanent campaigns for the timely detection of breast cancer and uterine cervix, after pointing out that it is the first cause of death from tumors in women.

Within the framework of World Breast Cancer Daywhich is celebrated on October 19, the legislator argued that the death figures that are recorded each year due to this malignant tumor show the need to intensify studies that allow reducing the time between detection and the start of specific treatment.

Through a Point of Agreement, the legislator called for awareness and making visible this health problem that due to the conditions of the female gender They are more susceptible to certain diseases as are the different types of cancer.

He explained that data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), regarding the registration of deaths in the country so far this year, warn that due to some type of malignant tumor It ranks third as a cause of death among women.

In 2022, he specified, 87,880 deaths were reported in people 20 years of age or older, of which 7,888 were in women who suffered from this disease, while in those 60 years of age 4,018 deaths were recorded. He added that this type of cancer is the most frequent worldwide and in 2020 the diagnoses of this suffering in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to 210 thousand cases.

Due to the above, the congresswoman maintained that this statistical panorama forces the three orders of government to continue with a health policy that cares for and offers better conditions to the patient to allow her to increase her expectations of control and recovery.

In addition, he stressed the importance of not overlooking that the care and treatment of breast cancer in Mexico is very expensive.
