IMSS organizes fourth walk for breast reconstruction – Grupo Milenio

Mexico City /

He IMSS and the Oncology Hospital of the Siglo XXI National Medical Center carried out the fourth walk in favor of breast reconstructionwhere survivors and their families participated dressed in pink, accompanying nurses, doctors, medical personnel and volunteers.

They told their success story as Diana, a college student who was diagnosed with breast cancer very young and is one of the beneficiaries of breast reconstruction at the IMSS.

His treating doctor gave him the news that they would reconstruct her breast affected by cancer.

“I was already very used to being told, you know that this care is not provided here, it is not possible, because the hospital does not have the necessary resources and from one moment to the next, they tell me: ‘You know what? Your operation is already financed, it is already approved and within a few weeks we will operate on you.’

“For me it was a very big surprise, I still can’t believe it and I have no more words to say, thank you to everyone who was behind this project,” said Diana García.

For those on the waiting list for reconstruction, and to continue adding to their quality of life, IMSS volunteering provides women prostheses made of fabric and flaxseed to help them with posture issues and self-esteem.

Rossy, an IMSS volunteer, tells what it means to have a flaxseed prosthesis.

“When you have the diagnosis, the truth is that you go into shock, the world comes crashing down on you, but once your surgery is over, you undergo chemotherapy, you undergo radiotherapy, your skin heals, that is when they recommend that you go volunteer to pick up my prosthesis and since I received it, the truth is that it is my life partner, it goes with me everywhere and I have become more confident, my posture is corrected and the truth is that you look the same.”

Both traffickers and survivors agree on the importance of overcome the fear that a diagnosis gives.

“What I could say to all the people is that fear is cancer’s best ally, fear and cancer are very friends, and one leads the other by the hand, so what we don’t have to have is Fear, first ask yourself, fear or what do they tell you, I’m going to die, but even if you don’t have cancer, you’re going to die, we’re all going to die, it’s up to us how and when we want to die,” Erika said.

If you want a prosthesis made with flax seeds, they are completely free, whether you are entitled to the IMSS or not, you can call the number 55 57 61 16 70on the IMSS volunteer social networks or by going to the Siglo XXI national medical center, in Mexico City.
