Cultural tourism in Mexico slows down; grows 3.6% until August – Grupo Milenio

It was indicated that this segment of the industry is a transformer element of the living conditions of the receiving communities, through policies of sustainable development and inclusive.

​Based on the report of the dependencethe most complicated scenario occurred in the archaeological zones, since between January and August there was a decrease in 9.9 percent in the total number of visitors.

Specifically, the number of foreign visitors to these sites, while the national volume fell 15.2 percent.

The archaeological zones most frequented by tourists in the period mentioned were Chichén Itzá, Teotihuacán, Tulum and Monte Albán.

Regarding the total arrivals of travelers to museums in the country, January to August was observed a annual growth of 22.3 percent.

The number of national visitors increase 23.3 percent and that of international went up 15.3 percent.

The report indicates that the most visited museums were el National Museum of Anthropology and History, the Templo Mayor, the National Museum of Cultures and the San Juan de Ulúa Fort.

It should be remembered that, in general terms, the arrival of tourists foreigners to the country showed a recovery in August, with 3 million 445 thousand visitors, 6.6 percent higher than what was reported in the same month of 2023, according to data from National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
