Emergency services at scene after two trains crash in Wales

Ambulances and other emergency services are at the scene of a collision involving two trains near Llanbrynmair, Mid Wales.

British Transport Police were called to the line at 7.29pm to reports of a low-speed train collision.

“Emergency services are responding to an incident near Llanbrynmair in Powys, Mid Wales, involving two trains – 18.31 Transport for Wales service from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and the 19.09 Transport for Wales service from Machynlleth to Shrewsbury”, Network Rail said in a statement on X.

“The line is closed as they carry out their work.”

Helicopters were also at the scene to help light the way for responders, according to the Cambrian News. Coaches were pictured waiting to collect passengers.

First Minister Eluned Morgan said she would be staying across developments through the night.

“My thoughts are with all those involved in the rail incident in Powys earlier this evening,” she wrote in a post on X.

“I would like to thank the emergency services for their response and have asked to be kept informed of any developments throughout the night.”
