The president of the American Society, Larry Rubin, assured that American businessmen do not see a revision in the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), but a renegotiation due to constitutional changes that have been made in Mexican territory.
“We see that it will be a complete renegotiation and that as industrialists, as well as businessmen, we all have to prepare, both on the American side and on the Mexican and Canadian side,” he said.
“The issue of these constitutional changes causes investors to look twice at Mexico,” he said during the Annual Meeting of Industrialists 2024 (RAI 2024).
Constitutional changes in Mexico impact the review of the T-MEC
The business leader explained that the result of the review of the T-MEC in 2026 It will be totally different from what it was in previous years, due to all the constitutional changes, as well as the disappearance of autonomous organizations.
In this sense, he commented that several investments that would come to Mexico were relocated to the United States although there is not enough labor to carry out the projects that are required.
Larry Rubin reiterated that it makes a lot of sense for companies to relocate their operations to other countries due to the lack of talent, which has already been seen with Elon Muskby investing more in Texas and “leaving the plans here in Nuevo León a little.”
As for CEO Dialoguethe president of the business group stated that it was a good idea on the part of the federal government for investors to come to the country, although it is necessary that the meetings be constant.
“I believe that Claudia Sheinbaum and Marcelo Ebrard should be meeting with investors practically every month, since the reality is that Mexico needs jobs and investment”, he indicated.
He pointed out that for investment to reach Mexico, the federal government must continually redouble its efforts so that the country continues to be very attractive in this matter.
