According to the Weather Warning of the National Water Commission (Conagua), Jhon will leave rains that will range from extraordinary to torrential in Oaxaca, Chiapas, Guerrero and Veracruz.

In its report this Monday at 6:00 a.m., Conagua reported that the center of the storm was located at 200 kilometers south of Punta MaldonadoGuerrero, and 250 west-southwest of Puerto Ángel Oaxaca.

According to the report, Jhon maintains a displacement trajectory towards the North-northeast from Mexican territory.

In light of this, the authorities indicated that “the hurricane prevention zone has been modified from Punta Maldonado, Gro., to Bahías de Huatulco, Oax., and the tropical storm prevention zone has been modified from the east of Bahías de Huatulco to Salina Cruz, Oax.”

What to do during a tropical storm?

According to the Secretariat of the NavyA tropical storm is “a strong thunderstorm system with a well-defined circulation and maximum sustained winds of 63 to 118 kilometers per hour (39 to 73 mi/h, or 34 to 63 knots).”

People who are exposed to a tropical storm should follow instructions similar to those they would follow during a hurricane to protect their safety.

  • Stay calm and reassure your family members.
  • Talk to neighbors to organize a civil protection plan
  • Keep a battery-operated radio on for hurricane information or instructions.

  • Stay away from doors and windows
  • Do not light candles or votive candles and use battery-operated lamps.
  • If the wind opens a door or window, do not advance towards it head on.
  • Take valuable objects to higher ground and leave those that could fall on the ground.
  • Do not leave your home or shelter until the authorities inform you that the danger is over.
