Athens has dressed up to celebrate, this Saturday, September 28, the long-awaited link between Princess Theodora of Greece and American lawyer Matthew Kumar. The Cathedral of the Annunciation of Saint Mary of Athens, also known as the Metropolitan Cathedral, has been the temple chosen for this celebration full of family references. In fact, it was in the same church where the bride’s parents as well as kings Juan Carlos and Sofia were married, and The bride has worn several pieces (such as the veil, the tiara and other jewelry) belonging to her ancestors. But she was not the only one who wanted to visit her predecessors’ closet for this great occasion: Alexia de Grecia’s little daughters, Anna MarÃa and Amelia, wore two beautiful guest dresses that their mother wore almost three decades ago.
The Anna MarÃa dress that Alexia from Grecia wore before her wedding
On July 9, 1999, Princess Alexia of Greece married the Canarian architect Carlos Morales Londonbut the celebrations in the British capital began days before with a gala dinner organized by the bride’s parentsthe then kings of Greece. For the special evening, Alexia chose a dress with a low neckline bardot with rhinestones and skirt nude to the floor, also embroidered with crystals. That very elegant design was the one that his middle daughter, Anna MarÃa, wanted to rescue 25 years later, for the wedding that took place today in Athens.
Amelia recycles a design from 2001
Her sister Amelia has also sneaked into our top of favorites from the Greek celebration, resorting, once again, to her mother’s dressing room. The youngest of the family has moved 23 years ago, specifically to the wedding of princes Haakon and Mette-Marit of Norwaywho were getting married in August 2001, to rescue the dress that Alexia wore to the pre-wedding dinner. It is a satin pastel blue design with a pronounced ‘V’ neckline and collar halter. Just like her mother, who wore a beige stole, she has added this accessory, although in a happier color that rejuvenates the look.
