Irish Rail suspend all services out of Heuston and along major routes ‘until further notice’ after ‘serious incident’

IRISH Rail has suspend all services out of Dublin’s Heuston station “until further notice” following a “tragic incident”.

The move will cause travel chaos for commuters looking to get out of the capital this evening, with long delays expected.

The organisation took to X, formerly Twitter, to update passengers that services between out of Heuston had been impacted by the tragic accident.

A spokesperson said: “Services are suspended until further notice. The Intercity trains will be held in Heuston.”

The post came in response to queries about individual lines after it was announced that disruption was to be expected.

Railway bosses confirmed that the a number line were out of use “until further notice” due to the accident.

Another tweet said: “Update: Services have been suspended between Kildare and Newbridge until further notice.

“Departures from Heuston will be held in Heuston. Update to follow.”

The post came after an earlier tweet that read: “Services have been suspended between Kildare and Newbridge following a report of a tragic incident on the line.

“Emergency services are en route. Update to follow.”

Irish Rail added that they were in talks with bus drivers to organise alternative transport for those affected.

And they apologised to commuters for “any inconvenience caused” by the suspension.

Separately, earlier this month commuters were informed that a new timetable had been released to “improve punctuality” after punctuality performance issues.

The big changes came into effect on September 16.

Irish Rail sent a message to customers about the update, saying: “Iarnrod Eireann advises customers that a number of changes will be made to the new timetable from Monday 16 September to improve punctuality on your rail services.

“As with all major timetable changes, we closely monitor its implementation to identify any issues which arise which may impact service performance. 

APOLOGY

“We apologise to customers for the punctuality performance since the implementation of the new timetable on Monday 26th August last, with timing issues leading to congestion in the Connolly Station area.

“Having analysed these issues, and liaised with the NTA, we will implement a number of time changes from next Monday 16th September which will improve punctuality for our customers.

“This will involve time changes mainly of between 3 and 7 minutes on a range of services on the Maynooth and Drogheda lines, with some minor changes on other routes to/from Connolly also.

“We look forward to delivering improved punctuality, and again apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused over recent weeks.”
