Police are investigating a “gunshot” targeted towards a taxi carrying BBC star Ian Hislop.
The Have I Got News For You panellist and Private Eye magazine editor was stuck in traffic in Soho, central London, when the driver says a suspected bullet was fired at the vehicle, hitting the window.
Hislop, 64, was not injured in the incident which took place just after 10am on Tuesday.
The Metropolitan Police Service said it received reports of a “firearms discharge” in central London directed towards a black taxi while at a standstill in traffic.
The force said an investigation is ongoing.
Hislop has been the editor of Private Eye since 1986, a magazine famed for its political satire and investigations.
He is well-known among the public as a regular panellist on the BBC comedy quiz show Have I Got News For You, usually captaining one of the two teams.
A spokesperson said: “At 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday, 1 October, police received a report of a firearms discharge on Dean Street, Westminster.
“The driver of a London black taxi reported that while stationary in traffic, a shot was fired at his vehicle, striking the window.
“There were no injuries. An investigation is ongoing.”
