Nestled at the foot of the Anaga mountains, San Andres is just 7km from the island’s capital city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Its perfect location allows holidaymakers to relax in the quiet village or travel to explore the island’s port city capital.

WINTER SUN

Tenerife is ideal for those looking to get away and soak up some sun but you won’t be bored as there is plenty to do for all age groups.

The spot is well known as a coastal paradise and is one of the most popular holiday destinations for Irish holidaymakers – but the village of San Andres is still mostly unexplored.

San Andres offers gorgeous winter temperatures – with mercury hitting highs of 23C in November.

Ryanair currently has flights from Dublin Airport to Tenerife South airport for just €29.99 in November – with the average rate of flights that month at €30.

The fishing village is known for its stunning beach Playa de las Teresitas – which offers golden sands, crystal waters and a mountainous backdrop.

The beach is over 1.3 kilometres long and there are several bars to grab a tipple and people watch.

STUNNING BEACH

There are great facilities here including toilets and changing rooms.

The idyllic village of San Andres in the north of the island has remained untouched for decades – with the Government banning the building of big buildings in 1984.

Taroudant is sometimes called ‘Little Marrakesh’ and is regarded as one of the most authentic Moroccan cities

Most locals make their living through fishing – with many fish restaurants in the town to try out the locally sourced fruits of the sea.

Those seeking an insight into rural Canary Island living can travel 7km to the nearby mountain village of Igueste.

The village features white-painted stone houses at the edge of a deep gorge filled with lush orchards and vegetable gardens.

The four-star Hotel Escuela Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz near San Andres costs just €100 a night a stay in the coming months and is situated just 2.3 km from the beach.

HISTORIC PARK

While nearby three-star Hotel Tanasu will set holidaymakers back €65 a night.

Sightseers can head to The Castle of San Andres and the Church of St Andrew the Apostle for a peak at the local history and architecture.

The Castillo de San Andres dates back to the 18th century and was constructed to protect Tenerife from pirates.

The Church of St Andrew the Apostle is one of the oldest churches in the Canary islands and was built between 1505 and 1510.

For those interested in experiencing the nature of Tenerife, San Andres is a good starting point for a hike across the Anaga mountain range.

Anaga rural park is a UNESCO World Heritage site that includes the Anaga laurel forest, bathing spots and hiking trails.

WATER PARK

For those looking for an activity that’s fun for all the family, Siam Park Waterpark in Tenerife has been voted the number one Waterpark in the world 10 times in a row.

There is a 200m tunnel slide that will get adrenaline pumping, a giant water tyre rapids slide and a tornado water slide called the dragon.

For those who prefer to sit back and relax you can lay down at the Cabanas or enjoy a drink by the bar.

For younger kids there is a huge water playground and some tamer versions of the big slides.

Nearby Monkey Park is a huge hit with holidaymakers, the zoo is located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and features a huge selection of monkey species.

They focus on caring for endangered species, as well as parrots lemurs, crocodiles and snakes.

CAPITAL VISIT

For those interested in city life, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is just a 10 minute drive from San Andres.

The capital is the location of the Palmetum Botanical Garden – a sustainable park full of lush palm trees from across the world.

There is also the Market of Our Lady of Africa which is full of fresh seafood and local specialities as well as a good selection of Canarian cheese and wine.

The markets also feature local produce and handcrafted trinkets that you can take home.

The bright and colourful city features stunning historical architecture – including Santo Domingo Square with a 19th century fountain at the centre.

In the evenings in Santa Cruz, you can visit Auditorio De Tenerife which features a programme of jazz and classical music, opera and performing arts.
