“A night with Matteo: The Americas 2024” is the tour with which Matteo Bocelli He visits the United States and Latin America as a single act for the first time, that is, he had been before, but he returns, as he has said previously, to show who he really is as an artist.
Inspired by this objective, the Italian began his concert with “Only”sitting at the piano in front of a Metropolitan Theater practically full. In the midst of a holiday and protest, Matteo’s fans took the time to come and accompany him to the legendary forum in the city center.
“Close”, “Dimmi” and “Piove” were other songs that sweetened the audience’s ears and demonstrated the versatility of the 26-year-old performer. In English, Italian and even Spanish, Matteo went through his repertoire in an elegant, confident and mischievous way.
“This is love, it is too big. “I don’t know if I deserve it all,” he said to his audience. “I have sung a little of my music, the music that describes me and what I feel (…) My music is the most important thing to me, but I can’t deny that I was born surrounded by classical music and incredible voices. It is important to show my music, but also the music I grew up with.”
This he said before moving on to a block of immortal songs in his voice: “Can’t help falling in love”, “She” — original by Elvis Costello —, “Quando Quando Quando”with which he went down to sing with the public, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” and “Kiss me a lot”with which he stole the sighs of the audience.
This performance, as well as the effort to speak Spanish as much as possible, earned the Italian to be baptized in the classic “Matteo, brother, you are already Mexican”a melody that he promised to “add to his repertoire.”
In a moment of sincerity, Matteo Bocelli spoke about the pressure of growing up with a surname that carries as much weight as his own and of being surrounded by people who are with him only for that reason.. So he admits that one of his greatest treasures is having found someone to accompany him ‘honestly’.
This comment gave rise to “Honesty”a song that was part of a block where they were also “Tempo”, “Anime Imperfette” — song that is part of the score of the Netflix series From Scratch —, “Chasing Stars”among others. With this night the young Matteo positions himself as his own being, as the artist beyond the surname and on the path to giving unique meaning to his name, to his individuality, to Matteo.
