The Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) sanctioned Atlético de Madrid with the partial closure of its stadium during three games, for incidents of the derby on matchday eight of the League against Real Madrid, temporarily suspended by the throwing objects.
According to the RFEF, The closure will affect part of the lower south end tiersectors 127 to 133, from which the shots were made to the area where the Madrid goalkeeper, the Belgian Thibaut Courtois, was. The Committee also fines the club 45 thousand euros for “very serious infractions”.
“Although it is the action of a non-representative part of the club’s fans, pOn the part of Atlético de Madrid, sufficient measures were not adopted to prevent such serious incidents in the mass action itself and in its result or, at least, the measures that were adopted were not ideal for a match of special rivalry of a top-level professional competition such as the First Division of one of the most important leagues in the world,” the Committee says in its resolution.
In it he points out that the events reflected in the minutes of the Balearic referee Mateo Busquets Ferrer have been “duly accredited”, and it is incidents “of special seriousness and impact on the development of the meetingwhich had to be suspended due to the throwing of objects, in accordance with the provisions of the “safety protocols” for this type of situations.
“Even if they were small objects, there is no doubt that they are susceptible to cause some type of injury taking into account the distance from which some objects were thrown, ppossibly having hit the head or face of the opposing team’s goalkeeper to whom they were directed,” he points out.
He also maintains that before the severity and persistence of the facts that are repeated up to two times, “the match had to be suspended for a few minutes, with the significance that this entails in the development of the game and in the repercussion of the “terrible image that arises from this type of incidents”.
Furthermore, the Committee affirms that although the throwing of objects was carried out “by a non-representative part” of the fans of the Atlético de Madridthe rojiblanco club did not adopt “sufficient measures“to prevent such serious incidents “in the mass action itself” and those that were undertaken “They were not ideal for a match of special rivalry” of a top-level competition such as the First Division.
“In any case, these objective facts are toabsolutely unacceptablethe allegations of the Club Atlético de Madrid regarding any type of previous acts, which would not in any case be capable of justifying them,” he points out.
Regarding the allegations of the Atlético de Madrid regarding the identification of any person and making them available to the authorities to collaborate in the identification of other possible perpetrators of the events, the Committee considers that it is “non-preventive measuresand therefore, reactive actions carried out as a consequence of accomplished facts, which have already produced some serious sporting consequences and media impact that at this point They are irreparable“.
However, the Committee evaluates “positively” the actions carried out by the Atlético de Madrid after the events occurred, although he described them as “insufficient” until complete identification of all the spectators involved is achieved.
Against this decision an appeal can be filed before the Appeal Committee within a maximum period of ten business days. As far as he could know EFEhe Atlético de Madrid just received the resolution and the is studying to decide whether to file an appeal.
