Mexico City /

Given the review process of the Mexico, United States and Canada Treaty (T-MEC), Ken Salazar indicated that he trusts that it will continue since it is vital for the integration of the three countries.

The representative of the North American government expressed himself again about the reform of the Judiciary emphasizing that for the correct functioning of the treaty it is important that there be legal certainty in the country.

“Let’s talk just for a second about judicial reform, as you already know, many of you are watching and concerned; The reality is that, if we are going to have this North American integration, it is necessary to have certainty in the rule of law,” he warned.

Salazar pointed out that within the review of the treaty, only the points that are useful and those that are not useful for it will be analyzed, highlighting that thanks to its implementation and modernization, the Workers from all three countries are protected.

“The T-MEC job title, I am tremendously proud, I know it has been difficult for some members of the business community, but the fact is that workers’ rights are now much more protected than they ever were before,” he said. the ambassador

Conversation needed in the region about China

In his speech, Graeme Clark, Canadian ambassador to Mexico, He added that another point that must be focused on is the impact and risks that China represents on the interests of the region.

He stressed that, to continue prosperity in both nations, the issue of the Asian country has to be put on the table.

“The other thing I wanted to put on the table, and I said it last night on the panel, is, and it doesn’t have to be in the context of the USMCA, but we need a conversation in North America about China, about the risks and challenges, because this has directly to do with our prosperity,” said Clark.

The review is in good hands

He Mexican ambassador to the United States, Esteban Moctezuma The Mexican delegation guaranteed that there are experienced personnel in the review of the treaty.

He detailed that the secretary of economy, Marcelo Ebrardformed an important part in the creation of the now T-MEC, so it is confident that this process will reach good terms for the three countries.

“Well, first of all, I believe that the entire process of the T-MEC hearing is in very expert hands, like Marcelo, because he was one of the people who initiated the negotiation to create the T-MEC after NAFTA,” he indicated.

“So he already has a very important path behind him and I think that is a very important advantage for the review. Now, I think we have to see it not as a challenge, but as an opportunity,” Moctezuma added.

This is North America’s moment

Salazar recognized that the relationship between the three nations has been good, which is why he highlighted that the region is experiencing an American moment, which can become a world power.

“About the relationship and where we are, and I say that we are in this American moment for North America to become, and it is, the leading power in the world in democracy, economy; We still have to address difficult issues like climate and migration. But I will say that we have reached this moment thanks to the hard work of the people in this room,” the ambassador added.
