US Court will evaluate Mexico’s lawsuit against arms manufacturers – Grupo Milenio

In the middle of the final stretch towards November 5 electionsthe Supreme Court of Justice agreed to evaluate this Friday the request of a handful of the major firearms manufacturers in the United States for reject a demand from the Mexican government to make them co-responsible for the violence against Mexicans on the part of criminal groups.

The high court countersuit filed on behalf of Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc., Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc., Beretta USA Corp, Colt’s Manufacturing Company, LLC, Glock, Inc. and Witmer Public Safety Group, who They declared themselves “intimidated” for the Mexico stocks.

“Mexico’s multibillion-dollar lawsuit will hang over the U.S. firearms industry for years, leading to costly and intrusive discoveries at the hands of a foreign sovereign who is trying to bully the industry into adopting a series of gun control measures that have been repeatedly rejected by American voters,” his legal representatives warned,

Their motion came after a lower court cleared the way for Mexico’s lawsuit to continue in the American courts

He government of Mexico seeks to make US companies responsible for the violence perpetrated in national territory by Mexican drug cartels and seeks billions of dollars in damages, as well as injunctive relief.

The manufacturers argue in their motion that Mexico’s lawsuit would amount to an intrusion on the sovereignty of the United States insofar as the judicial outcome could reshape the landscape of American firearms regulation, from a ban on “assault weapons”to a universal background check system imposed by the courts.

The magistrates accepted the call “writ of certiorai” of the complainants and will begin the process during the next period of sessions of the highest court in the country, which begins this Monday in Washington
