The good news keeps coming for the Red Sox farm system, and earlier this week three of the club’s top prospects ranked with the top 10 of MLB Pipeline’s latest rankings.
Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell ranked No. 3, 7 and 10 respectively in the latest MLB Pipeline Top 100 Prospect Rankings, giving Boston three prospects in the top 10 while no other club even has three in the top 30. Campbell made the biggest jump of anyone on the list, rising 64 spots from No. 74 in the prior ranking after finishing off a breakout season in which he swept most of the big minor league awards.
The Red Sox had six prospects make the top 100 overall, with catcher Kyle Teel ranking No. 25, outfielder Braden Montgomery No. 54 and shortstop Franklin Arias No. 95.
Anthony, a 20-year-old outfielder, is widely regarded as one of the premier young talents in the sport after a brilliant 2024 season in which he became the youngest Red Sox prospect in decades to reach Triple-A. Upon his arrival in Worcester he batted .344 with a .982 OPS in 35 games while routinely crushing the ball with exit velocities comparable to big league sluggers like Pete Alonso and Jorge Soler, and the expectation is next year he will factor into the big league equation, perhaps as soon as Opening Day.
Mayer, who has ranked as a top prospect ever since being drafted No. 4 overall in the 2021 MLB Draft, batted .307 with eight home runs, 13 stolen bases and an .850 OPS at Double-A. He also earned a call-up to Triple-A alongside Anthony and Kyle Teel, though he did not appear for the Worcester due to a lower back injury.
Campbell wasn’t even ranked among the Red Sox top 30 prospects entering the season but now is considered a contender for the big league club’s starting second base job next season. He rose from High-A to Triple-A, batting .330 with 20 home runs, 24 stolen bases and a .997 OPS.
