Servytur asks Sheinbaum for a comprehensive tertiary sector policy – Grupo Milenio

Mexico City /

The Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur), requested through a letter to the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardothe creation of a comprehensive policy for the country’s tertiary sector.

The president of the business group, Octavio de la Torre, pointed out that this measure has the objective of not only promoting the formalization of employment, but also of creating the conditions for small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) can continue to prosper.

“We trust that the president, Claudia Sheinbaum, and her team know the importance of the tertiary sector and that, unlike previous administrations, they will take decisive actions to generate the necessary conditions for our sector to continue being the engine of economic development. of the country,” he expressed.

In this sense, he commented that the tertiary sector alone represents more than 60 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and generates more than half of the formal employment in the country; However, despite its size and impact, it has not received the recognition or comprehensive support it deserves.

This is because they are often perceived as a sector that grows by its own nature and does not require support for its growth.

Regarding the 100 commitments assumed by the president of Mexico, she pointed out that these are divided into three categories:

  • Income generated by entrepreneurs and private companies that are essential to economic growth.
  • State companies, which provide profits from strategic sectors such as energy.
  • The contracting of debt, which must be kept under control to ensure the financial stability of the country.

“This framework shows us that the success of President Sheinbaum’s commitments will depend largely on the performance of the private sector, particularly trade, services and tourism,” he noted.

“For this reason, we at Concanaco Servytur reiterate the need to promote a comprehensive national policy that strengthens the tertiary sector, promotes the formalization of employment, as well as the sustained growth of commerce, services and tourism,” he stated.

Octavio de la Torre considered it “crucial” to create synergies to strengthen formal employment and reduce informalityin order to offer greater stability to workers, and the economic growth of our country.
